At the workshop, participants will learn, in a sense, the environment from scratch and get to know the human being - his needs and limitations. Questioning your own experience and context awareness is essential for a good project, whether in space or on Earth.
Designing for extremely unfriendly environments puts new challenges ahead of the designer. He have to stop using his own intuition and personal experience. Being used to the comfort of own desk, he must turn into the experience of a flood drama, frostbite his fingers in Antarctica, and maybe even take a journey into space. In a sense, one must learn the environment from scratch, get to know human more accurately - his needs and restrictions. Questioning your own experience and awareness of the context - physical and psychological conditions - are essential for a good project, whether in space or on Earth. In extreme conditions, the concept of designer's responsibility also has a new dimension. The consequences of the design mistake may be incomparable to the experience of discomfort of an uncomfortable chair or a contact with not ergonomic handle. Experience of extreme conditions and the ability to observe reality from a perspective other than our own, can become an invaluable tool for designers of the future world.
