Why did the clothes industry threw off worlds balance? How not to let yourself be killed by your clothes and what kind of solutions are being introduced today to avoid tomorrow's disaster or delay it?

If nothing changes, by 2050 the fashion industry will use up a quarter of the world’s carbon budget. How is it possible that our beautiful clothes can be so deadly? Every second, the equivalent of one garbage truck of textiles is land filled or burned. An estimated USD 500 billion value is lost every year due to clothing that’s barely worn and rarely recycled. The clothing industry is the second most harmful industry in the world. Washing clothes releases half a million tonnes of plastic microfibers into the ocean every year, equivalent to more than 50 billion plastic bottles. 50 % of clothes produced all around the world will end up on a landfill after a year. Sewing one shirt consumes almost 2,700 litres of water (a man drinks such amount in 3 years).

During the lecture, Anna Pięta will present 5 specific steps, that are already taken by important organizations, and tell us about what we can do today to stop this fashion frenzy.

The lecture is part of FASHION BLOCK. Free admission.
