Design is a power, every designer has power and should be aware of the impact he or she has on the people´s mind, their life, their culture, the economy, the environment and the planet. The solution is to start making changes. Listen and act!

The man-made world is in a deep confict with the natural world. Humanities irresponsible behaviour will not be able to sustain life on the planet it inhabits, certainly not the current way of life, that is based on a system depending on the infinite usage of natural resources. We designed ourselves into this situation, by implementing a cradle-to-grave design paradigm, which causes a scarcity of resources on one hand, and vast landflls on the other. In conjucton with social discriminaton and unequal power relatons we will fnd ourselfs in a massive man-made-error. The designer, between consumer, industry and producton, makes decisions, he holds a relatonship to the partcipants and communicates with them. Change is provided through instruments, design is an instrument. To use this instrument for a change the mind of the user has to pass through a change as well!

The lecture is part of DESIGN BLOCK. Free admission.
